What is Remote I/O?

As technology continues to evolve and grow, the industrial enterprise must keep up to remain competitive. Automation devices and software are instrumental to the success of your business. But Any technology, regardless of how innovative, cannot last forever. For several years a communication protocol called “Remote I/O” is being used.  Some of the hardware is still available, but many items have been discontinued and are no long supported or even available.

What is Remote I/O?

Remote I/O is a communication protocol which uses a shielded twisted pair cable that is better known as “Blue Hose” the cable (usually blue in color) has two conductors (Blue & Clear) with a bare shield. The cable is noted in a picture above. The cabling was such that the connected items have to be in a linear topology and resistors were required on each end of the line to provide proper resistance for the communication to work properly.
